Hi Kerry....
Thanks for the great seats. All the girls were able to see and I didn't lose any of them!
They all enjoyed the show - I think it was a "first" for almost all of them to see a real live performance. After the show they got autographs and we took pictures with the performers.
The show was great - compliments to all for putting on such a wonderful performance! All our Waterdown Sparks really enjoyed themselves!

The Memory of Water
Fri. March 5, 2004
Hi Lisbie:
I was delighted to see your production of "The Memory of Water". I was very impressed with the high calibre of the performances (and of course direction, which was no surprise) The script offered a wonderful balance of drama and comedy and I could certainly relate to the theme. Thank you so much for introducing me to this theatre.

Hi Lisbie,
I didn't get a chance to speak to you after the show, but I wanted to drop you a line to say just how much both Claudette and I enjoyed it! What an amazing job you did. Not an easy show to approach, I'm sure, but we came away feeling that you had elevated community theatre to a new level by what we saw on stage. Congratulations! Please pass on to your cast that we felt it was a superb piece of theatre and excellent ensemble acting.
Congratulations on a beautiful show!
Jennifer Walton
Ps The set was also just great! Loved the snow!

Death of a Salesman
October 7, 2003
Hello Cast of Death of a Salesman,
I had the pleasure of seeing your production on Saturday night. Now, I must confess that Arthur Miller's classic is not one of my favorites. By the end of most productions I seem to have lost all sympathy for Willy and at times for Linda. However, your interpretation broke with this standard.
Mr. Edwards' portrayal of Willy was so interesting. He seemed to reflect the fears of people in 2003. He was angry but this anger was tempered with confusion. He was bewildered and this made him all the more humane. Moreover, Linda was an appealing character. In other productions the character was almost a dreary nag but Ms Mallette portrayed a gentler Linda with quiet strength. Linda's determination to support Willy reveals a genuine caring. The tenderness between Willy and Linda made so evident by the actors make Willy's self destruction all the more tragic because he seems so blind to what his life could hold for him. My husband and I remained sympathetic to Willy until the end.
Thank you for putting a new light on Death of a Salesman. Well done to the entire cast.
As for Gary Smith. he seems to have missed the whole point of community theatre. He seems to want the production to be a clichéd repeat of what has been done before.
Good luck with your final performances.
Sincerely,
Catharine Arrowsmith

To the members of Village Theatre Waterdown
Last night (October 2) I attended my first performance by Village Theatre Waterdown. When Christine Whitlock told me you were doing my favourite play, I just had to crawl out of my rut and get myself there. Although Death of a Salesman is my favourite work, it was the first time I've seen it performed.
I want to tell you what you already know. You've staged a brilliant production! Bruce Edwards had me so involved I actually had to restrain myself from shouting at Willy once. I'm not kidding you. He made me so angry at a couple of points. What a performance! Murline Malette, Joe Balaz and Mike Wierenga were impressive in their roles as well. (I don't mean to slight anyone in the cast. Everyone was good. It's just that some portrayals stood out a little more than others, for me.)
The set was shabby and disappointing, exactly as it should be for this play. Ever since two of my own plays were produced by Tempo Theatre's Children's Drama Group in Kitchener-Waterloo, many, many years ago, I've been impressed by the way a well-directed play can get us to suspend belief, and how little it takes to create a convincing atmosphere, such as your creation of a restaurant with only a couple of table cloths -- okay, and a couple of waiters too. :)
I came away from your production moved, introspective and satisfied. What more could I ask for for $14, right? Or for $20, or whatever.
But there's another side to Village Theatre that may not be ballyhooed quite so often, and it's every bit as worthy of mention as what went was happening on the stage. That is the atmosphere created by the people in charge of the front of the house: the receptionist, the ushers and everyone. From the moment I walked in I was made to feel welcome and at home. Even the members of the audience were smiling and talking to me! It was like I'd gone back 30 or 40 years in a time machine!
I have to tell you, one of the first things that hits you when you step inside is the delicious aroma of freshly brewing coffee. Coffee is generally all about smell, but the smell drove me wild. I finally asked if it was possible to get a cup before the performance and discovered, when my wish was granted, that your coffee tastes as good as it smells. The treats at intermission were another superb touch. So different from the line-up at the bar for alcoholic drinks in plastic cups. So perfect for the atmosphere of the venue. If the person who makes those butter tarts were a rent-a-Mom, I'd hire her on the spot! Wow!
So I guess, what I'm trying to say is that I was pretty pleased with my experience last night. I'm going to put your productions on my list of things that are well worth putting my shoes on for.
Thank you, very, very much.

Kerry I hope you realize how demanding that role was and what a fantastic character you have created. I have seen you in quite a few productions and every character surprises me, entertains me or touches me and I can't wait for another one that comes around. Great show!!!

The Country Wife

Saw the play last evening. Felt compelled to write and say how much I enjoyed all performers. Particularly Nara Farrell as Margery Pinchwife. Her delivery was perfect. The accent just right, and every word clearly spoken. She was delightful. Good luck to all.
